A Day in Strasbourg

On Friday, we toured the town of Strasbourg in the Alsace region. This area has an entirely different feel and look to it than what we saw on Thursday, and definitely from Paris. It has gone back and forth through the years belonging to both Germany and France and you can easily see that in its architecture and culture. We saw natural blondes for a change and everything was available in both German and French and often English. They were very friendly and welcoming to us (often not the case in Paris) and instead of the houses being stone, khaki, and greys they were suddenly all candy colors. The towns look like a bowl of Jordan Almonds! We started off the day with a fun German snack and then visited the town's most famous attraction, the cathedral.

We spent the rest of the morning hitting all the stores and loving the traditional Alsacian handicrafts and products. It was a little colder than we had planned for so we also picked up gloves, a scarf for Andrew and new hats for the girls.

The kids then took a ride on the most beautiful, antique, double-decker carousel in one of the town squares. (I hope you can see the faces in the action shot--I just love them).

Many of the buildings throughout this region are half-timbered and we just loved these views by the river.

After Strasbourg, we headed up to Soufflenheim to make the rounds of their famous "Potteries" with their traditional clay bakeware and even managed to bring a few home :) A cold but wonderfully fun day!
