Germany - Heidelberg

As I mentioned in an earlier blog, we spent the first week of Andrew's spring break traveling in Germany. We started on Easter evening in Heidelberg where we got to stay and visit with friends from Texas who came over around the same time we did. They have two boys, one the same age as Andrew and one a little older. He could NOT have been more thrilled to leave his sisters in the dust-HA! They took us to the army base where they have benefits and we got to eat at an american food joint. (That may not sound great to you back home, but to us--it was wonderful). I didn't get a picture of Winger's...so if you read this Heather, will you take a picture for me the next time you go out there? We visited the base's AMAZING playground and then headed to their wonderfully spacious home for two nights. We are trying VERY hard not to be jealous! Space is such a luxury in European cities and they got lucky.

Monday, we visited their town of Heidelberg, rode a historic railcar to the top of the hill where we got stunning views from the Konigstuhl (King's Chair) and HIKKKKKED down to tour Heidelberg Castle. We crossed the 18th century Karl Theodore Bridge that makes photos of Heidelberg so picturesque, fit in some classic German food at a local brewhouse and shopped along the Haupstrasse of Aldstadt (Old Town). It was a beautiful day to be out and we could not have asked for better company to tour with.
